Transition metal-Uranium FLPs for the cooperative Activation of dinitrogen

Project description

Novel catalysts for cooperative activation of dinitrogen

Funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the TRUFA project will develop transition metal-uranium catalysts for the cooperative activation of dinitrogen. The isolation of transition metal-uranium bridged dinitrogen complexes would represent a fundamental advance in inorganic chemistry, enabling detailed studies on the cleavage of N-N bonds and the catalytic formation of N-H and N-C bonds.

Objective

The proposal entitled TRUFA (TRansition metal-Uranium FLPs for the cooperative Activation and functionalisation of dinitrogen) will be developed by the candidate at the cole polytechnique fdrale de Lausanne (EPFL; Switzerland, outgoing phase) and at the University of Seville (Spain, incoming phase) under the supervision of Prof. Marinella Mazzanti and Dr. Jess Campos, respectively.
The goal of the proposal is to develop cooperative transition metal-uranium functionalisation catalysts by exploiting a Frustrated Lewis pair approach. The isolation of transition metal-uranium bridged dinitrogen complexes would represent a fundament development in Inorganic Chemistry as well as provide access to a range of studies concerning the cleavage of the N-N bond and the catalytic formation of N-H and N-C bonds en route to ammonia and organonitrogen compounds, respectively.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
