The project aims at generating an improved understanding of how random porous media induce mixing of fluids circulating within
We have simulated and analyzed chaotic deformation of fluids in porous media and how it is controlled by the characteristics of the solid geometry.
We have also modeled mixing front iso-concentration surfaces under the competing effects of stretching and diffusion, and then extended these models to predict chemical reactions.
Solid geometry has a strong impact on the chaotic fluid deformation ability of a porous medium, as exemplified by the cases of idealized cases of spherical vs cylindrical solid objects, which exhibit distinctly different behaviors.
