Shaping consumer-inclusive data pathwaYs towards the eNERGy transItion, through a reference Energy data Space implementation

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - SYNERGIES (Shaping consumer-inclusive data pathwaYs towards the eNERGy transItion, through a reference Energy data Space implementation)

Période du rapport: 2022-09-01 au 2023-08-31

The growing number of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) connected to the network continuously expands the energy system “edge”, in terms of controllability and operational complexity. The progressive decentralization poses significant challenges for the resilience of the system, while introducing increased uncertainty in traditional control routines.
SYNERGIES introduces a reference Energy Data Space Implementation that will attempt to unleash the data-driven innovation and sharing potential across the energy data value chain by leveraging on data and intelligence coming from diverse energy actors and coupled sectors and effectively making them reachable and widely accessible. In turn, it will facilitate the transition from siloed data management approaches to collaborative ones which promote the creation of a data and intelligence ecosystem around energy data and enable the realization of data (intelligence)-driven innovative energy services. The SYNERGIES solution will:
• value the flexibility capacity of consumers in optimizing energy networks’ operation, maximizing RES integration and self-consumption at different levels of the system
• evidently support network operators in optimally monitoring, operating, maintaining and planning their assets and coordinating between each other for enhancing system resilience;
• create an inclusive pathway towards the energy transition, through consumer empowerment, awareness and informed involvement in flexibility market transactions;
• step on real data streams and intelligence to deliver personalized and automated features to increase prosumer acceptance and remove intrusiveness facilitate the establishment of sustainable LECs by enhancing their role with Aggregator and Business Service Provider functions;
• establish solid grounds for the creation of a new economy around energy data produced and shared across a complex value chain, in a secure, trustful, fair and acceptable manner;
SYNERGIES will be extensively validated in 3 large-scale demonstration sites in Greece, Spain and Denmark involving complete value chains, diverse data sources, heterogeneous energy systems/assets and spanning different socio-economic characteristics.
Concerning the work performed, the activities carried out are:
- the Project Management Plan has been defined, including the basic management structure, the procedures and the operational bodies to ensure a solid implementation of the project activities, and Ethics and IPR management Approach. More over, the Data Management Plan has been elaborated describing the management policies for the data that will be collected, processed and/or generated.
- The concept of SYNERGIES has been defined including the Business Scenarios for all the actors participating in the energy data value chain. Following the identification of Business and User Requirements, carried out in Task 2.2 a first version of SYNERGIES Minimum Viable Product (MVP) has been derived.
- The data modelling activities of SYNERGIES have been completed at high-level modelling of the energy, building & EV data models per se, and the presentation of the detailed concepts, their basic fields and their related concepts for each data model. Moreover, the pertinent functional and non-functional requirements and the detailed specification of each service/component inside each Building Block has been carried out.
- two stakeholder engagements events were organized in 2023 in Spanish and Greek demosites. Moreover, effective dissemination, communication activities have been conducted to ensure that the project’s advancements are widely promoted.
- Collaboration activities with sister projects under the umbrella of the int:net Coordination and Support Action, focused on the elaboration of common use cases and fundamental requirements for a Common EU Energy Data Space. Such initiatives (on M12) included the European Commission, BRIDGE, BDVA/DAIRO, IDSA (International Data Spaces Association), DSSC (Data Spaces Support Centre), DSBA (Data Spaces Business Alliance), GAIA-X, OPEN DEI, ETIP-SNET and the Energy Data Spaces Projects Cluster (under the int:net support action)
SYNERGIES aspires to deliver highly innovative and impactful results and, thus, significantly contribute to the energy system integration by establishing robust grounds for the creation of a common European Energy Data Space.
New semantic concepts, attributes and relations that will be introduced in the SYNERGIES Data Models and their harmonization aspects will be documented in a standardization punchlist that will be continuously updated throughout the project and will consolidate all novel elements and data model harmonisations between existing open standards-based data models, to be widely communicated both towards (i) sister projects and relevant communities (DAIRO, BRIDGE, OPEN DEI, GAIA-X, AIOTI) working on interoperability in the energy system and data spaces (as part of the collaboration activities of the project), and (ii) technical committees and standardization bodies where the SYNERGIES partners are actively contributing either as members or by promoting the work performed in similar projects/ initiatives.
From a technical perspective, the project will promote advanced Data Value Accrual services and a transparent Data Asset Marketplace towards increasing the availability of large volumes of energy data (and data referring to coupled sectors, i.e. buildings and mobility) and creating a single reference point and one-stop-shop that will foster the transition from data silos to real-time collaboration across the energy data value chain built on secure and trustful data exchanges, as attested by an expected users’ assessment on trust features and successful data breaches attempts in the SYNERGIES Energy Data Space.
