Project description
Saving birds from window collisions
Windows are among the biggest threats to birds today. Seeing reflections of trees and other vegetation, birds fly right into the glass. A crash can be dangerous. More than a billion birds die annually in collisions with residential and commercial windows. One solution to save birds from flying into windows is being developed by BirdShades, a female-led startup. Supported by the EU-funded BirdShades WomenTech project, the company is producing the first large-scale pilot line of invisible window film. Specifically, an ultraviolet reflective film that is practically invisible to humans is highly visible to many bird species. The project’s goal is to pave the way to a cutting-edge deep tech champion that protects biodiversity.
Objective
BirdShades is a female led startup which develops an invisible window film to save billions of birds worldwide.
We have recently successfully produced our first large scale pilot line which we are going to sell in a Pilot Customer Programme.
We plan to validate our business model and to improve our IP strategy to ensure and pave they way that BirdShades will become one of tomorrows cutting edge deep tech champions which protects biodiversity worldwide.
