Research paper related to Impact of IBRs on protection relays (opens in new window)

Research paper related to Impact of IBRs on protection relays will evaluate the performance of protection relays for HV and MV networks with high penetration of inverter interfaced resources (IBR), considering different protection principles and different types of RES (such as wind and solar). The performance of different protection relays (distance, overcurrent, differential, etc.) will be tested using RTS technologies in different application cases in combination with OPAL-RT. This deliverable is related to task T4.2.

Events attendance report - Year1 (opens in new window)

Events attendance reports - Year 1 will provide the events description and attendance details in the events during year 1 of the project. During year 1, it is planned to organize a special session at the conference IEEE PowerTech 2023 to increase the visibility of the project and to establish connections with the research community and industry.

Mid -Term report (opens in new window)

Mid -Term report will provide details on the project progress including the accomplishment of milestones and deliverables in the first 17 months from the project start. A comparison of the results achieved to that moment with the objectives and milestones expressed in the original project plan will be also provided as well as plans for the remaining period of the project This deliverable is related to task T1.4 and supports the effective monitoring of project implementation as well as the fulfillment of the partners with their obligations.

Events attendance report - Year 3 (opens in new window)

Events attendance reports - Year 3 will provide events description and the attendance details in the events during year 3 of the project. During year 3, it is planned to organize a tutorial at the conference IEEE PowerTech 2025 and one special session to increase the visibility of the project, one workshop with stakeholders in order to establish better network and connections with the TSOs, DSOs, and industry partners and one summer school for ESRs and students.

Report on the installation of the Real-Time Power System Laboratory (opens in new window)

Report on the installation of the Real-Time Power System Laboratory will describe the completed installation of the laboratory designed in task T2.1. The report will include not only details about installed equipment and installation issues but also details about preliminary unitary tests for guaranteeing the adequate installation of the equipment. This deliverable is related to task T2.2.

Research paper related to Coordinated control of active distribution networks (opens in new window)

Research paper related to Coordinated control of active distribution networks will present the evaluation of the performance of a hierarchical controller for the MV and LV distribution networks with a plethora of distributed resources considering the particularities of each voltage level. The performance of the proposal will be tested using RTS technologies and, furthermore, the so-called Power System HIL (PS-HIL) which is a natural evolution of P-HIL where not only the DuT are actual power devices but also the network where they are connected to. This deliverable is related to task T4.3.

Research paper related to Multi-terminal HVDC controls (opens in new window)

Research paper related to Multi-terminal HVDC controls will present the new algorithm for control of the hybrid AC/DC power system. The designed controllability, implemented using HIL co-simulation OPAL-RT/RTDS setup, will enable more resilient operation of the AC and DC grids, with both grid forming and grid following possibilities: AC and DC voltage control, and active and reactive power control of the VSC. This deliverable is related to task T4.1.

Tutorials to speed up the experimental testing of power system technologies (opens in new window)

Tutorials to speed up the experimental testing of power system technologies will provide a complete workflow to develop a device from its initial concept to its laboratory experimental testing. The tutorial will cover different applications (PV inverter, STATCOM and Electric Vehicle Charger) with different operation scenarios both in C-HIL and P-HIL. Moreover, this deliverable will also include all the safety issues that have to be considered in order to prevent any equipment damage due to DuT malfunction. This deliverable is related to task T3.2.

Staff exchange report (opens in new window)

The staff exchange report will give details about planned activities and actual output during staff exchange. The report will include a description of teaching sessions and tutorials organized by US, TUD, and UPV/EHU experts, as well as attendance data. This deliverable is related to task T3.3.

Report on the design of a Real-Time Power System Laboratory (opens in new window)

Report on the design of a Real-Time Power System Laboratory will provide details about the final laboratory design at ETF. It will include a description of the main hardware and software components and their interactions, advantages, and limitations of different technology components as well as implementation and security issues. This deliverable is related to task T2.1.

Report on the design and realisation of a general-purpose VSC (opens in new window)

Report on the design and realisation of a general-purpose VSC will provide details about how to define the specifications of each component, possible manufacturers and/or suppliers, practical mounting recommendations as well as unitary tests of each part before the integrated testing. This deliverable is related to task T2.4.

The communication, dissemination, and exploitation plan (opens in new window)

The communication, dissemination, and exploitation plan will outline the main elements and strategic choices regarding both external and internal communication, dissemination activities, and approach to the exploitation of results. The overall aim of this document is to enable the project team to properly plan and implement all required dissemination activities to achieve the identified main objectives: implement communication activities targeted to different stakeholders, produce promotional materials for project output awareness, and involve the stakeholders throughout all phases of the project. This deliverable is related to task T7.1.

Project Handbook (opens in new window)

The Project Handbook will define the internal processes for securing a successful completion of the SUNRISE project. It will provide partners with a concise reference to the project management structure, tasks, responsibilities, and procedures at all levels of project execution. This deliverable is related to task T1.2 and supports the strategic coordination and overall management structure.

Report on the laboratory upgrading and exploitation plan (opens in new window)

Report on the laboratory upgrading and exploitation plan will propose a roadmap for maximising the utilisation of developed infrastructure. The report will provide an overview of the different national and European calls which can be used for funding the required equipment and continuous upgrading to incorporate cutting-edge technologies. Moreover, the report will include analyses of different key stakeholders (research institutes, universities, manufacturers, and technology vendors) for exploration of the Real-Time Power System Laboratory. This deliverable is related to task T2.5.

Quality and risk management plan (opens in new window)

Quality and risk management plan will define the processes, plans and metrics to ensure the successful execution of the SUNRISE project. Deliverable review procedures and reporting timelines will be also defined to guarantee the quality objectives of the project. This deliverable is related to task T1.3 and supports the effective implementation of the project.

Project website and social network pages (opens in new window)

The aim of this deliverable is to create a modern and user-friendly website andsocial media campaigns. The project website will contain detailed information on the aims, objectives, consortium, work processes and the current state of the SUNRISE project. It will provide information for all interested parties and the generalpublic. This deliverable also includes setting up the appropriate socialmedia accounts (Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook).

MOOC for OPAL RT/RTDS co-simulations (opens in new window)

MOOC for OPAL RT/RTDS co-simulations will provide guidelines for simulations using RTS in OPAL-RT and RTDS, and their co-simulation. The aim of the MOOC is to increase utilisation of the simulation potential from both OPAL-RT and RTDS and unlock enormous research potential. This deliverable is related to task T3.1.
