OPEVA - OPtimization of Electric Vehicle Autonomy

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - OPEVA (OPEVA - OPtimization of Electric Vehicle Autonomy)

Período documentado: 2023-01-01 hasta 2023-12-31

The OPEVA project represents a pivotal step towards the integration and optimization of sustainable electric vehicles (EVs) within the European transport sector, addressing both technological advancements and socio-economic challenges. By focusing on six core Technology Domains (TDs), the project aims to enhance vehicle performance, battery management, and charging infrastructure, leveraging external data for optimization and incorporating human factors into vehicle design and functionality.

Central to OPEVA's strategy is the acknowledgment of the critical role social sciences and humanities play in facilitating the societal acceptance and legal framework adaptation necessary for the widespread adoption of EVs. The project seeks to bridge the gap between technological innovation and societal needs, ensuring that advancements in EV technology are matched with improvements in user experience, policy support, and public perception.

OPEVA's objectives:

- Optimize the autonomy of electric vehicle batteries;
- Manage green energy production, conversion, and storage systems;
- Enable affordable, safe, and ecologically neutral light mobility;
- Reduce energy consumption by more than 10%;
- Reduce charging time by at least 10%.

The expected impacts of OPEVA are significant and multifaceted, encompassing environmental, economic, and social dimensions. Environmentally, the project aims to contribute to reduced emissions and a lower carbon footprint for the European transport sector. Economically, it seeks to enhance the competitiveness of European EV technology, fostering growth and innovation in the industry. Socially, OPEVA intends to improve public health through cleaner air quality and facilitate a cultural shift towards sustainable mobility.

OPEVA's comprehensive approach, combining cutting-edge technology with a keen understanding of societal trends and challenges, positions the project as a key contributor to Europe's energy independence and environmental sustainability goals. Through its focus on both technological innovation and social integration, OPEVA sets the stage for a transformative impact on the way electric vehicles are perceived, adopted, and utilized across Europe.

To sum up, OPEVA aims to tackle the main obstacles to the purchase of electric vehicles: range, price, charging facilities, and charging times.
In the first year of the OPEVA project, notable advancements were made to boost EV autonomy and integration, mainly in terms of specifications and architecture, on the different following subjects:

1. Conducted a thorough review to set a baseline for EV technology improvements;
2. Developed innovative architectures to enhance EV efficiency, range prediction, and grid integration;
3. Boosted powertrain efficiency by 10% through advanced modeling, control strategies, and AI;
4. Reduced energy consumption over 10% with dynamic routing algorithms using diverse data;
5. Enhanced range prediction accuracy by at least 10% using data fusion techniques;
6. Improved EV grid integration and smart charging to increase efficiency by 10%;
7. Explored advanced charging technologies, aiming to cut charging times by 10%;
8. Optimized battery system architecture for better safety, security, and integration;
9. Established a data management framework for AI-driven efficiency and routing improvements;
10. Advanced thermal management research for better battery and powertrain performance.

This year laid a solid foundation for future work on intelligent energy management, health management, and optimized charging strategies, preparing for the next project phases.
For the first year of this project, we have done specifications and architechture to prepare the projet for results which we believe, some part will be beyond state of the art.
