Periodic Reporting for period 1 - ELABORATOR (THE EUROPEAN LIVING LAB ON DESIGNING SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY TOWARDS CLIMATE NEUTRAL CITIES)
Période du rapport: 2023-06-01 au 2024-11-30
The project aims to foster safe, inclusive, and sustainable mobility systems through a co-creation approach that involves diverse stakeholders, including citizens, local authorities, and experts. Central to its strategy is the integration of active and green transportation modes, smart enforcement tools, space reallocation, and shared mobility services. These solutions are tailored to the needs of vulnerable and excluded groups, ensuring equitable access for all.
By operating in six Lighthouse Cities (Milan, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Zaragoza, and Trikala) and six Follower Cities (Lund, Liberec, Velenje, Ioannina, Split, and Krusevac), the project demonstrates scalable interventions. Through its co-creative and inclusive methodology, ELABORATOR directly contributes to the European Green Deal and the EU’s goal of climate-neutral and smart cities.
Needs Assessment: Comprehensive data collection from user groups, including vulnerable populations, to understand mobility barriers and preferences.
Co-creation Workshops: Engagement with citizens and stakeholders to design innovative solutions tailored to local contexts.
Piloting Interventions: Implementation of mobility solutions, such as adaptive traffic management, dynamic space reallocation, and digital mobility services, across Lighthouse Cities.
Evaluation and Knowledge Sharing: Using advanced toolkits and shared platforms, the project assesses the impact of interventions and facilitates knowledge transfer among cities through a twinning approach.
Key achievements include the successful development of prototypes for smart enforcement systems and the redesign of public spaces to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety. These interventions have not only enhanced mobility but also fostered public trust in collaborative urban planning.
Innovation in Mobility Tools: Development of citizen science-based toolkits and digital platforms that provide actionable insights into urban mobility patterns.
Enhanced Inclusivity: Tailored interventions addressing the specific needs of marginalized communities, ensuring equitable access to transportation.
Data-Driven Decision-Making: Creation of dynamic data-sharing frameworks among cities to inform real-time decision-making and long-term planning.
To ensure uptake and scalability, the project identifies key needs, including further research into behavioral economics, access to financing for large-scale implementation, and harmonization of regulatory standards for emerging technologies.
