SUSTAINABLE DEEP TECH INNOVATION FOR AQUATIC OIL SPILLS CLEAN-UP

Project description

Wiping out marine spills with new material

Each year, oil spills devastate aquatic ecosystems, imperilling marine life and fragile habitats. The EU-funded InnoAerogel project is helping combat such ecological disaster by revolutionising environmental clean-up. Specifically, the product is a sustainable, biodegradable and remarkably efficient material made from paper waste. It acts as a powerful sorbent, capable of cleaning up aquatic oil spills while remaining reusable. The innovative idea has earned patents from the State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania and is currently undergoing the patenting process at the European Patent Office. InnoAerogel aligns seamlessly with this global concern, aiming to make substantial contributions to safeguarding our planet’s future.

Objective

"Inobiostar is an early-stage start-up leaded by CEO and Founder Dr. Tatjana Paulauskiene. The company was founded in 2020 as a spin-off company of Klaipeda University with the aim to create and develop deep tech innovations towards clean seas.
Inobiostar was excited to participated in ""TechHub"" startups pre-accelerator tprogram in 2021 where the idea of InnoAerogel became TOP5 at TechHub Demo Day. We were selected to be a part of “Baltics & Slovakia ClimAccelerator 2021: Accelerator for climate-positive startups” supported by Climate-KIC. Inobiostar together with the strategic partner – Klaipeda University in 2021-2022 implemented the product commercialisation project InoBioTech Baltija (Development of a biotechnological treatment method for oil spills in the Baltic Sea).
Inobiostar is currently in the process of receiving de minimis grant from Klaipeda Science and Technology Park (InoSpurtas) and Lithuanian Innovation Centre (InterInoLT) for consultancy services.
Our new brand product is InnoAerogel – sustainable, highly efficient, biodegradable and reusable waste paper based material – sorbent for aquatic oil spills clean-up. The idea is patented in State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania and is being patented in European Patent Office. The problem which we are solving have never been so actual for the human with arising awareness on climate change and health. We see our mission to contribute significantly to the efforts of modern society to save the future.
The objective of this project is to develop InnoAerogel innovation from early stage and non-investment ready to modern, knowledge-driven, resource-efficient and competitive product on the global market leaded by woman. During the project implementation we are planning to perform 3 main tasks: to prepare for fundraising and EIC Accelerator, to find key innovation partners and encourage more women to join blue biotech sector.
