Experimental production capabilities for quantum technologies in Europe

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Qu-Pilot (Experimental production capabilities for quantum technologies in Europe)

Reporting period: 2023-04-01 to 2024-09-30

During the project's initial 18 months, Qu-Pilot partners made substantial progress toward achieving its objectives. Notably, the network's research organizations enhanced their facilities and processes, as well as published an online service catalogue to showcase these capabilities to the broader community. The implementation of all industrial use cases commenced under WP6. Additionally, the project has set-up a process to engage with additional industrial players through the so-called open call process.
The project encompasses 12 internal use case companies and aims to engage additional companies throughout its duration, ensuring a continuous feedback loop that addresses industry needs. With the first open call for use cases, we expect 10 new companies to join the network, bringing the total to 22 use cases.

Initial discussions were held with partners to explore the concept of creating a one-stop-shop European network. Qu-Pilot partners are enhancing existing pilot production infrastructures and facilities for quantum technologies, refining manufacturing processes and functionalities, which will increase the overall technology readiness level (TRL). Services are now accessible online at https://ecosystem.qu-pilot.eu/technical-marketplace(opens in new window). We are also working on establishing a distributed pilot line infrastructure, connecting public and privately owned facilities, along with associated services for the production of quantum technologies, available to clients in all 27 EU countries.

To date, we have successfully launched an open call, receiving 20 intake forms and 17 full proposals. From these, 10 use cases were selected, marking a significant step in establishing a distributed pilot line infrastructure that links public and private facilities and services for quantum technology production across the EU. External use cases are currently in the validation phase, while internal use cases have made substantial progress and are nearing completion.
The project is well on track to deliver impact to the quantum ecosystem by providing a wide variety of experimental services accessible to industrial partners. Progress has been made in upgrading pilot production infrastructures and increasing technology readiness levels (TRL). Services are now accessible online via the technical marketplace (https://ecosystem.qu-pilot.eu/(opens in new window)).The execution of 12 industrial use cases is going well and moreover, the open call resulted in 20 intake forms and 17 full proposals, with 10 use cases selected. This shows that the services of Qu-Pilot are important for the quantum ecosystem and that the network brings an added value to the European quantum industry.
