Periodic Reporting for period 1 - MARIANAS (feMAle fundRaisIng leAdership in advanced techNologies for brAin diSorders)

Reporting period: 2023-07-01 to 2023-12-31

Alpha Brain Technologies (ABT) stands at the forefront of innovation with AI-powered devices designed to address neurological anomalies in real-time. This breakthrough opens up new avenues for transforming treatment approaches and holds the potential to proactively prevent neurological disorders. Driven by a personal quest, the first device predicts seizures before their onsets with the goal of stopping the seizures before they happen. Epilepsy is one of the largest neurological disorders, affecting 6 million Europeans; epilepsy causes unpredictable seizures and presenting various symptoms. This condition significantly reduces the quality of life and can even lead to premature death. The EU-funded MARIANAS project will build upon ABT’s past achievements by engaging stakeholders, including patients and caregivers, in a fundraising campaign to conduct clinical trials and ultimately commercialise the solution.
The project achieved the following main activities:1. Improved business plan including a detailed regulatory pathway; 2. Improved stakeholder’s identification & engagement; 3. Produced a three-year communication & marketing plan 4. Drew up an advanced financial plan to attract future funding.
Epilepsy is a severe, chronic, and unpredictable neurological disease affecting over 70 million people worldwide. At present, epileptic patients have a 1.6 to 3 times higher chance of dying prematurely due to fatal seizures or accidents related to them. Prediction of seizures allows for taking several preventative measures to improve the clinical outcome. These measures are: 1. Patient entering a safe position and stopping a ‘dangerous’ activity such as showering, riding a cycle, or drinking a hot beverage which is important for preventing accidents/death); 2. Stopping seizures from happening with the use of existing solutions that are not currently used for prevention; 3.Informing caregivers and medical personnel before the start of a seizure. Our key need lies in further demonstration of the innovation via clinical studies (planned for 2024 with 6 epilepsy centers around Europe), and subsequently a funding round.
