Periodic Reporting for period 1 - INCASI2 (A New Measure of Socioeconomic Inequalities for International Comparison)
Période du rapport: 2023-11-01 au 2025-10-31
a) To produce effective advances in the understanding of the complex phenomena of socioeconomic inequalities creating a fresh analytical framework at a comparative and interdisciplinary level in a context of societies in "permanent crisis".
b) To construct an innovative multidimensional measure (DYSIC: Dynamics of Socioeconomic Inequality in Comparison) adapted to the new realities shaped in this context that is global, more comprehensive and realistic in the comparative analysis of inequalities between Europe and Latin America & the Caribbean, and to monitor the situation and evolution of inequalities. We consider 3 DYSIC variants: 1) including 3 main dimensions as a base (education, occupation and income), 2) adding gender dimension and 3) adding
dynamic trends.
c) To create the INCASI Living Lab to elaborate diagnoses, contribute to informed decision-making and the design of public policies. It is designed to enhance the innovation process by embracing three core principles: fostering a collaborative open innovation strategy, utilizing a methodology centred on promoting the quality of life for individuals, and creating an environment for interdisciplinary thinking and action that enables the participation of diverse socioeconomic, political, and scientific agents.
These objectives will be achieved with a collaborative work of an interdisciplinary, intersectoral and international network for Comparative Analysis of Socioeconomic Inequalities (INCASI) with 29 organizations: 14 EU universities from 6 countries, 11 universities and 4 non-academic organizations from 7 LAC countries and the USA, in order to face one of the most relevant problem in our societies: socioeconomic inequalities, and promote European values of social justice.
WP1 Research: 100%.
WP2 INCASI Living Lab: 95%.
WP3 Training: 70%.
WP4 Dissemination and Communication 90%.
WP5 Management: 100%.
The period was characterised by significant challenges for organisational structures. The significant scale of the network resulted in a considerable burden on management, particularly in terms of the high operational costs involved.
With regard to secondments, the plan for the first period is as follows: In terms of secondments, 181 months (177 have been completed and 4 are in course), representing a 92,6% of 189 secondment planned. It was necessary to advance six secondments/months from the second period to the first period (3 of them where executed in the first year). This is due to two underlying reasons: 1) The initial planning was conducted one and a half years prior to the project's commencement. Consequently, we are working with a group of researchers who have been replaced in part since the project's start. It was therefore necessary to adapt the profiles and timescales of the secondments that had been previously planned. 2) In order to allow for potential delays in the planned secondments, we have advanced some secure secondments that we have in the second period. This task has the objective of preventing delays in the implementation of the secondments.
Additionally, through the creation of a Living Lab on Socioeconomic Inequalities between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean (INCASI Living Lab), the project is forging international scientific cooperation on socioeconomic inequalities to solve present and future challenges and prepare diagnoses and practical conclusions that inform the design of innovative public policies aimed at addressing situations of socioeconomic inequality in collaboration with socioeconomic, political, and scientific actors. In this sense, the new DYSIC index, recommendations, guides and action protocols are being prepared and disseminated for their application at local, national and international levels, both in the public or private spheres.
