InteractionSeeds

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - InteractionSeeds (InteractionSeeds)

Période du rapport: 2024-01-01 au 2024-12-31

InteractionSeeds is a diverse team of stakeholders coming together to reinvent our approach to societal challenges through artistic and cultural processes.
InteractionSeeds is connecting research and the arts to bring science closer to citizens and enhance the value of knowledge.

Our mission includes:
1 Creating a resource hub: a collection of effective, replicable artistic and cultural interactions that help communicate science and co-create solutions. There interactions are designed to be replicable across different contexts and with small budget.
2. Fostering collaborations: a supportive environment for collaborations between researchers (from industries, technical centers and academia) and arts and cultural organisations, spreading citizen engagement practices across Europe.
3. Offering capacity-building: workshop and training kit accompany research centers on how to integrate art and cultural approaches in their innovation processes to bring research closer to society
4. Launching local initiatives: implement art-science projects in local ecosystems

The project is testing Art-Science-Society interactions in four domains stem from complex societal challenges that strongly impact citizen's daily life and that, as such, have been prioritised by EU policies:
- Health
- Climate action and Environment
- Digital age
- Democratic change and Society
- Description of over 50 art and cultural projects that have effectively communicated sicence concepts, co-created solutions with citizens and are easy to replicate in any community: https://www.interactionseeds.eu/seeds-repository/(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)

- Each partner has identified local priorities and stakeholders that aligned their activities with these priorities. Identified stakeholders included R&I stakeholders, facilitators (clusters, incubators, industrial associations etc.), local public authorities, stakeholders providing access to citizens and CCI having already worked in the prioritised sectors. This mapping fed the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy, submitted in M10. Based on it, 30+ R&I stakeholders were contacted and 20 of them accepted to co-develop an interaction.
In parallel, a training kit has been developed to facilitate the understanding of what art/ science projects are, why and how to develop them. This training kit has been tested through 6 trainings, on 145 persons in autumn 2024.

- During the first12 months we have conducted and an in-depth analysis and methodology for integrating cultural and local dimensions into innovation projects, exploring how interactions between Research & Industry and the Cultural & Creative Industries (CCIs) can be optimised through an approach combining art and design thinking. We have developed a comprehensive guide for implementing innovation approaches that integrate culture, art, and society, and highlights the importance of a skilled Art-Science Society facilitator (ArtSS Facilitator) to guide these processes and ensure their long-term success.
For the engagement plan, all the necessary variables have been detected and listed in an adapted business model canvas (InteractionSeeds model canavs) as well as the importance of ensuring the matching of traditional industries and CCIs through a facilitation process.

- At M12, seven cases were implemented locally. These interactions have been carefully prepared by the implementing partners, and challenged through bilateral and collective meetings.
To implement the seven cases and prepare the next ones, partners were dedicated to exchange with and train their local ecosystems, strengthening the links between R&I stakeholders and artists, answering their needs and designing unique interactions, to reach short and long-term impacts.
Partners also carefully reported their activities in a detailed monitoring sheet, thus facilitating the development of success stories to disseminate their experience on the project's website.
Overall, the project demonstrates strong progress in engaging stakeholders, testing art-design thinking methodologies, and building capacity, with significant potential for societal impact.
The contribution to the following three expected outcomes can be described:

Outcome 1: Enhancing Art-Science-Society Interactions
- Results: The InteractionSeeds repository compiled 50+ methods for enhancing interactions, with a focus on replicability and low-budget schemes. 35 R&I organizations were engaged (20 actively), representing 5 ecosystems and involving 250 citizens in 7 interactions. While industry engagement remains low, strong connections were made with research institutions and cultural organizations. Local authorities are also involved to boost outreach.
- Impact: The project fosters knowledge transfer to society, promoting collaboration and creating tangible societal value. Local partnerships support addressing specific challenges and expanding citizen engagement.

Outcome 2: Innovative Solutions with Societal Acceptance
- Results: InteractionSeeds methodology has been tested in 7 fully implemented cases, with 8 more planned. 160 R&I stakeholders were trained across 5 countries, exceeding the target of 50. Recommendations for future actions are being drafted.
- Impact: By connecting R&I organizations with cultural and creative industries (CCI), the project enhances the potential for innovative solutions with strong societal uptake, enabling new conceptualizations of societal challenges.

Outcome 3: Developing Skills and Promoting Preparedness
- Results: The project targeted the twin transition, health, and democratic change, aligning with regional priorities and the Knowledge Valorisation platform. The repository supports replicating impactful engagement methods. Over 1,800 stakeholders were reached through training and interactions, and 7 test cases in key domains were implemented.
- Impact: The project supports community engagement, skill development, and resilience building through real interactions across the quintuple helix, contributing to preparedness and adaptation to societal challenges.
