At M18 the project is progressing smoothly and 11 deliverables (out of 30 – two of them in M18 draft version) have been officially submitted in the F&T Portal under the technical coordination of UNIGE (As technical and scientific coordinator) and the administrative support by RINA-C
All WPs have already started and their main results are the following ones:
- WP1: definition and agreement (via a thorough assessment and sensitivity analysis also following enabling technologies development performed in WP2-WP3) of the operating envelope of the SCO2OP-TES laboratory charging and discharging cycles; analysis of the performances of the cycles in off-design conditions; preliminary dynamic modelling of the cycles; preliminary techno-economic assessment of the SCO2OP-TES storage solution also looking at most relevant electric markets and grid flexibility services to be offered by SCO2OP-TES system; definition of preliminary P&ID of the storage sCO2 charging and discharging cycles.
- WP2: preliminary design of the SCO2OP-TES hot and cold enabling machines thanks to mean-line design techniques and numerical modelling activities
- WP3: preliminary design of the MS Loop and of the Thermocline TES (according to thermo-mechanical performance assessment via numerical modelling); definition of preliminary P&ID of the storage loop; assessment of metal slags to be used as solide media
- WP4: definition of the first laboratory layouts (in cooperation with WP1) about where to position the SCO2OP-TES enabling technologies. Assessment of the suitability of the locally available auxiliaries connection (compressed air, electricity, water…) and of the local data monitoring. Interaction with TIRRENO POWER (as power plant manager hosting UNIGE lab) and investigation about how to deliver the waste heat to the lab from the power plant; preliminary interaction by UNIGE with an EPC for lab engineering and investigation about technologies to be procured and potential suppliers
- WP5: first steps of activities related to LCA (dataset for the inventory collection)
- WP6: preparation of D&C materials, project templates and launch of project website and social media; strong interaction with sisters project funded under the same call for proposal (Air4NRG, SERHENE…) and other projects on similar topics setting up the LDES CLUSTER with whom SCO2OP-TES organized different project events and D&C activities; publications of 11 SCOPUS Indexed OA publications (4 on journals, 7 in conferences); participation to different workshops and events, including organization of a launching event; definition of project KErs
- WP7: organization of a KOM, three general assemblies and a technical visit to CV REZ facilities; setting up (and constant upgrade and maintenance) of a common data sharing repository; definition of consortium management procedures and tools
An effective and proper Project Dissemination & Communication strategy has been performed under the guidance of RINA-C and UNIGE through website, social media, flyers and posters, dedicated events and videos.
As foreseen, different stakeholders events have been organized since the first months also connecting with sisters projects (like Air4NRG, SERHENE, RESTORE, ASTERIX-CAESAR… and various D&C activities have been already put in place (i.e. publication of papers in conferences and journals, Press Releases , participation to relevant national and International conferences and events by project partners, active social campaign etc.).
The project is currently well positioned and known among EU LDES and Carnot Battery sector actors, as evidence of the quality of promotional and engagement activities.
All the project goals for the period M1-18 have been successfully achieved (also in accordance with project main activities pillars mentioned in the Grant Agreement).
