Showcasing Advanced Hydrogen Valley in Western France

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - AdvancedH2Valley (Showcasing Advanced Hydrogen Valley in Western France)

Période du rapport: 2024-01-01 au 2024-12-31

AdvancedH2Valley is built on successful first achievements of H2Ouest and Vhygo (Vallée hydrogène Grand Ouest), two hydrogen ecosystems initiated in the western part of France in 2019 which include a total of two hydrogen production sites, 5 hydrogen refuelling stations and the deployment of more than 42 fuel cell vehicles in Bretagne and Pays de la Loire regions.

The overall objective of AdvancedH2Valley is to strengthen and accelerate the development of such complementary renewable hydrogen projects, promoted by companies and organisations previously involved in pilot projects at local level and willing to scale-up their initiatives and better integrate these initiatives on the entire H2 value chain along the Loire Valley in France.

AdvancedH2Valley will pursue this objective in the framework of an interregional hydrogen valley gathering regional and local authorities, companies, local energy syndicates and universities. The ambition of this first small-scale project is to rapidly operate the whole valley while improving at different levels its operation, therefore serving as a springboard and a laboratory for both new and larger initiatives, e.g. in the European Atlantic Coastline.

By initating :
- New production capacities along with innovation to optimize operation process;
- 2 new HRS with distribution capacity of up to 1,3t/day on RTE-T network;
- Hydrogen trucks fleet deployment in France, as well as innovating off-road port logistics vehicles and river ferry;
- Renewable hydrogen supply chain adapted to industrial customers specific requirements, in order to quickly decarbonize even the “small” industrial hydrogen consumptions;
- Innovations to enhance valley operation (multi-sites coordination, optimised truck filling).

It will decarbonize transport and industrial activities by using renewable hydrogen: 14,6t of CO2 will be avoided during the 2-year operation and 2,8 Mt per year by 2036.
AdvancedH2Valley was officially kicked off January 2024. General assessment of local initiatives and H2 economy deployment in Western France since the proposal was submitted in April 2023 has been carried out. In the meantime, preliminary studies were pursued in order secure the projet. The following actions have been taken:
- land securisation for H2 infrastructures;
- application to national subsidy scheme;
- commercial partnerships negociations.
AdvancedH2Valley is taking a big step forward in accelerating renewable hydrogen deployment in Western France as it will initiate:
- New production capacities along with innovation to optimize operation process;
- 2 new HRS with distribution capacity of up to 1,3t/day on RTE-T network;
- Hydrogen trucks fleet deployment in France, as well as innovating off-road port logistics vehicles and river ferry;
- Renewable hydrogen supply chain adapted to industrial customers specific requirements, in order to quickly decarbonize even the “small” industrial hydrogen consumptions;
- Innovations to enhance valley operation (multi-sites coordination, optimised truck filling).
