Project description
Advanced hybrid electrochemical storage technology with high power
Electric energy storage poses a challenge for modern energy systems. With this in mind, the ERC-funded IMMOSTORE project focuses on advancing electric energy storage research by introducing a new hybrid electrochemical capacitor (HEC) type capable of storing energy rapidly and efficiently, owing to its high power and reversible interactions. The project aims to pioneer an innovative approach by incorporating a redox-active electrolyte as a component, enabling full insertion of the negative electrode. Research efforts will include a comprehensive study utilising various operando techniques to elucidate the mechanisms governing performance degradation. Ultimately, the project aims to deliver a device with a high energy density of approximately 50 Wh/kg and power exceeding 1 kW/kg.
Objective
This project focuses on the electric energy storage and offers research on novel type of hybrid electrochemical capacitor (HEC) that
stores the energy quickly (due to high power), efficiently (due to reversible interactions inside) and demonstrates the satisfactory
performance over thousands of charging/discharging cycles.
Innovative concept of redox-active electrolyte as a component that allows for full insertion of the negative electrode will be
researched. A comprehensive study, including several operando techniques will be provided, with elaboration on the mechanisms
that govern the performance fade. Finally, the device of high energy density (~50 Wh/kg) and power (over 1 kW/kg), retained over at
least 1 000 of cycles is aimed to be delivered.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
