Periodic Reporting for period 1 - FEDERATE (SoFtwarE DefinEd vehicle suppoRt And coordinaTion projEct)
Période du rapport: 2023-10-01 au 2024-09-30
Joining the SDV Ecosystem means contributing to common pre-competitive solutions, clarifying ambiguities, actively collaborating, and focusing on research, development, and innovation activities, etc. In order to help the new stakeholders join the community and overcome the barriers for participation, FEDERATE published a jointly elaborated vision document, which summarizes high-level requirements and concept for an open software-defined vehicle software. FEDERATE also arranges SDV Conferences in synergy with the Eclipse Foundation to enable a collaborative and active SDV community. Furthermore, FEDERATE works on a common understanding (glossary) and wording made available to the SDV community, creating a jointly elaborated understanding. In addition to the above, the established active and contributing community ensures the continuation and further development of the SDV Ecosystem.
The project had its kick-off on October 4th, 2023 with a General Assembly (GA) F2F Meeting in Munich. The project internal infrastructure (project office, e-mail lists, project SharePoint etc.) was established in M1, followed by the project communication infrastructure (website, LinkedIn and YouTube Channel etc.) later in 2023. All WPs are operating as planned, and partners collaborate in periodic meetings (weekly or bi-weekly) as scheduled. A GA (all consortium members) info meeting is held once a month, to spread project-wide info and updates. Weekly core team meetings in between are used to manage the project and align activities.
The milestones defined in the description of work (DoW) for Y1 have been met
• Milestone 1: Risk management plan; planned for: M6; checkpoint: D1.2 submitted on 28-MAR-2024 via ECAS
• Milestone 2: First Year Review; Planned for: M12; Checkpoint: Vision document was released and posted on the project website on 12-APR-2024; a list of Building Blocks (BB´s) exist on GitHub since APR-2024; deliverable D4.4 Strategic Roadmap - First Version submitted on 8-OCT-2024 via ECAS
• Milestone 3: 1st European SDV community conference; Planned for: M12; Checkpoint: 1st FEDERATE Networking day was held on 23-SEP-2024 with more than 100 registered participants
Major achievements in Y1 include
• a White Paper (Vision and Roadmap) outlining the SDVoF has been published together with the SGG on FEDERAT's website on 12-APR-2024
• a common structure for software in SDV stacks, which is well accepted and applied in SDVoF projects, associated initiatives and private public partnerships
• an open repository to collect descriptions of BBs (GitHub), with entries for SDVoF In-vehicle stack, SDVoF cloud stack and SDVoF toolchain ()
• common glossary and terms which are shared with other projects (submitted deliverable D2.5 “Glossary (incl. layer structure))“
Within the reporting period, 15 deliverables were planned and have been submitted
• D1.1 First Project report
• D1.2 Quality and Risk Management Plan

• D5.5 First Dissemination and Communication Activities report
• D5.9 First Year data management report (this document)
Objective 1: Collect and evaluate future trends (automated driving, V2X, EdgeAI at the SDV and the connected infrastructure) to identify and details those of relevance for SDV, and derive high-level requirements for stakeholders (industry, government, research and community). In addition, definitions are deduced for common non-differentiating building blocks (software components, containers, SDKs, services, ...) that are reusable and scalable across departments and companies, taking into account already existing high level requirements from the stakeholders and those already worked out in the Sherpa Governance Group (SGG) meetings.
Objective 2: Derive a common understanding (glossary) about building blocks in a layered service-oriented architecture with harmonized interfaces and required functionalities and features by organizing workshops with stakeholders and the community, and to strengthen the collaboration.
Objective 3: Prepare and maintain a roadmap on how to create the identified non-differentiating building blocks of an open Software-defined vehicle Ecosystem. Identify and advise relevant RDI funding programs for missing building blocks, tools and technology developments.
Objective 4: Help to create a vibrant SDV community in Europe and furthermore, monitor the performance of the CSA initiative by evaluating the activities as well as the support of the stakeholders and the community during the project lifetime.
Objective 5: Foster an European initiative, which continues the work of the CSA (FEDERATE) to orchestrate a strong open European collaborative community in maintaining and developing a European Software-defined vehicle Ecosystem.
During Y1, FEDERATE has achieved major achievements along all of these objectives. Results are all open access and published on FEDERATE's website (https://federate-sdv.eu/(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre))
Objective 1: as published in D2.6 (First Technology Forecast Report) and D2.1 (First Report of high level requirement list)
Objective 2: as published in D2.5 (Glossary (incl. layer structure))
Objective 3, as published in D2.4 (Vision Document), D4.1 (Initial Recommendations for building block realization) and D4.4 (Strategic Roadmap - First Version)
Objective 4: as published in D5.1 (Stakeholder engagement strategy) and D5.5 (First Dissemination and Communication Activities report); in addition, organized and hosted the First SDVoF Networking Day (Vienna)
