Significant progress has been achieved in the development of perovskite solar module architectures suitable for industrial upscaling. Materials have been carefully selected and industry-compatible fabrication processes have been established, enabling a clear pathway toward mass production. In addition, robust indoor and outdoor stability of the developed devices has been successfully demonstrated, addressing one of the key challenges for the commercialization of perovskite photovoltaics. The project has also contributed significantly to the scientific literature. Four peer-reviewed publications have been published or accepted in high-impact journals. Notably, a perspective article entitled “From Promise to Product: Designing a Viable Commercialization Pathway for Perovskite Photovoltaics” has been accepted for publication in Nature Reviews Clean Technology. This work provides strategic guidance to the research and industrial community on advancing perovskite photovoltaic technologies toward commercialization. The design of a 200 MW pilot production line has been initiated to enable rapid, cost-effective, and high-throughput manufacturing of the technologies developed within the LAPERITIVO project. In parallel, the construction of a pilot line compatible with substrate sizes of 30 × 60 cm² is underway at a project partner. These developments represent a critical step toward industrial readiness, de-risking scale-up and facilitating future large-scale investments. Semi-transparent single-junction perovskite modules, offering tunable transparency and customizable aesthetics, have generated strong interest from building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) stakeholders. This growing market demand is reflected in several potential pilot and commercial projects currently under preparation, indicating clear pathways toward near-term market uptake. A spin-off company from a project partner is expected to be established in the near term to accelerate commercialization of the technologies developed in this project. The company will focus on scaling the technology from MW-scale pilot production to full industrial manufacturing beyond 2030, supporting job creation, attracting investment, and strengthening Europe’s position in next-generation photovoltaic technologies. Collectively, these activities contribute to the emergence of a resilient and competitive European photovoltaic value chain. By bridging the gap between research, pilot-scale validation, and industrial deployment, the project supports the EU’s strategic autonomy in clean energy technologies. It fosters stronger linkages between material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, module producers, and system integrators, particularly in high-value application sectors such as buildings and agriculture.
Furthermore, the developed technologies open new market opportunities through innovative integrations in buildings (BIPV), greenhouses (agrivoltaics), automotive applications, and digital infrastructure. These cross-sector applications enhance the economic potential of photovoltaics by enabling new business models, diversifying revenue streams, and responding to evolving market demands for multifunctional and sustainable energy solutions.
