Support Engineering in singLe-atoM cAtalysts for light-driven C-X coupling processes

Objective

Despite the unprecedented development in the field of single-atom catalysts, these materials still suffer from major challenges, including, among others, the difficulty of reaching high loadings of catalytically-active metals in atomically dispersed form. To solve this issue, the choice of an appropriate support is critical, as this strategy can effectively modulate the metal-support interaction.

In this MSCA project, I aim to design a novel family of single-atom catalysts (SACs) based on modified carbon nitride supports to overcome challenges related to metal immobilization and stabilization in single-atom catalysts. This will be accomplished by engineering carbon nitride materials with altered C/N stoichiometry ratios. The catalytic potential of the developed SACs will be evaluated in photocatalytic C-X coupling reactions (where X = O or N) under visible-light conditions, an important reaction for the production of value-added chemicals. The exploitation of in situ/operando characterization methods will allow us to gain a more in-depth understanding of the structural properties and evolution of reaction active sites under working conditions.

This MSCA will open new scientific avenues in the field of sustainable single-atom catalysis. The interdisciplinary nature of this MSCA project will also equip me with a diverse array of scientific and soft skills, including project management, leadership through mentoring, networking via collaborations with academia and industries, adaptability in research, and more. These skills will enrich my research competencies and contribute significantly to my career growth as a researcher.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
