Project description
Sustainable battery production
With the increasing focus on electrical transportation and renewable energy, high-performance batteries with high energy density, longer cycle life and faster charging capabilities are essential. Therefore, there is a need for batteries with enhanced performance and efficiency and minimal weight, which can be produced in a more sustainable manner. The EIC-funded C2C-CSA project aims to transform the battery industry by developing custom battery electrodes and cells for special high-end applications. The project is proposing a dry electrode processing method that is eco-friendly and reduces energy consumption by 27 %, supporting EU environmental goals. The team has established experience with industrial-scale battery cell production including prototype and pouch cells and plans to expand to cylindrical cells.
Objective
UniverCell Holding GmbH, established in 2019 in Flintbek, Germany, is revolutionizing the battery industry by developing and producing custom battery electrodes and cells tailored for premium applications like scooters, e-bikes, Power tools, Marine applications, Stationary Storage Solutions, e-Aviation and sports cars. At the heart of our innovation is the dry electrode processing method, offering an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional solvent-based manufacturing. This shift aims to reduce energy consumption by 27%, aligning with the European Union's environmental goals. Financially, we've charted a clear roadmap: we're seeking an EIC grant of 2,387 million €, coupled with a 15 million € investment from EIC Accelerator. We anticipate our initiatives will generate over 100 direct job opportunities, thus bolstering the European economy. Beyond these economic contributions, we're committed to ensuring our endeavors resonate with the broader societal aspirations of the European Union, from sustainability to economic resilience. As we set our sights on the future, our vision is clear: to place Europe at the forefront of sustainable battery production while emphasizing environmental efficiency, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to the broader European community.
