During the first reporting period, LASER‑PRO focused on establishing the foundations for collaboration and launching key activities across the ecosystem.
A structured governance framework for the Excellence Hub was successfully developed, enabling coordinated cross-border cooperation and aligning stakeholders around shared priorities. Initial work on the joint research and innovation strategy progressed through ecosystem mapping, stakeholder engagement, and interdisciplinary workshops connecting photonics with other industrial sectors.
Significant progress was also achieved in collaborative research activities, with early results in laser technology development, including optical components for deep ultraviolet lasers, laser-based glass processing techniques, and structured surfaces with improved biocompatibility. These activities established a strong scientific and technical basis for further innovation.
At the same time, the project reinforced human capacity and innovation culture through training programmes, workshops, and staff exchanges involving a large number of participants. These actions support the development of technical skills, leadership capabilities, and cross-sector collaboration.
Science–business collaboration was strengthened through networking events, international missions, and the establishment of formal cooperation frameworks between research and industry actors.
A key milestone was the launch of the LASER‑PRO Open Call, providing SMEs and innovative companies with access to advanced laser technologies and expertise. In parallel, support schemes for start-ups, spin-offs, and access to finance were prepared.
Finally, the project established strong communication and dissemination foundations, including a project website, stakeholder networks, and participation in major international events, ensuring visibility and engagement with a wide audience.
