Periodic Reporting for period 2 - AIM (Accelerating breakthrough Innovation to monitor, control and reduce Methane emissions.)

Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Reducing global warming is the key challenge we must face in the next years. Methane (CH4) accounts for a third of temperature increase resulting from greenhouse emissions.

Countries worldwide have collectively signed the Global Methane Pledge to decrease CH4 emissions by 30% by 2030. However, to date, existing data are both too expensive and not accurate enough to allow precise quantification and regulation of CH4 emissions. Absolut Sensing is building GESat, a satellite constellation to provide regulators and companies with accurate and affordable CH4 data.
We achieve this thanks to ground-breaking innovations:
- a compact optical system,
- a miniaturized cryogenic spectro-imager
- an AI-amplified data processing chain.

Our constellation will reach a better detection threshold (>50kg/hour/CH4), revisit rate (daily measurement across all high methane emitting areas worldwide), and quantification precision (>95% regardless of weather conditions) at a better cost.

During the period, we faced difficulties in leverage for serie B in climate tech VC.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

During the second period, we released the first MVP of our digital platform called Plum. Furthermore, we integrate the first Mission Planning component in order to allow tasking of our GEN1 satellite.

We made some huge progress on the calibration and validation of our GEN1 payload. 2 control releases were made with Total Energies, one at 1t/hour and the second on at 500Kg/h. Our methane emission rates have less than 5% of difference.

During the first period, we start acquiring data from our first satellite launched on january 2025 as our demonstrator for Methane detection.

Therefore, we accelerated on
- setting up our digital platform called plum in order to start commercial activities in October 2025.
- improving performances and calibration of our processing chain.
- defining our licences and agreements.

In the meantime, we have been through the EIB due digilence for equity phase.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

With our Gen1 payload and the improvements made on our processing chain, we already are closed to reach the market detection threshold of 100 kg/h.

The progress made on the design of our GEN2 payload and the scan mirror make us confident that we will be able to go below and be an impact player on GHG monitoring from space.
