In-Space Manufactured Solar Array providing highly cost-efficient power generation for SmallSats and In-Orbit Servicing; enabling European non-dependence and competitiveness in space technologies

Objective

In-space manufacturing (ISM) is the key for overcoming the tyranny of launch, i.e. the restriction that all space (sub)systems are pre-built on earth and thus must be made to withstand the extreme mechanical loads at the launch of the rocket all while fitting into tight volumetric restrictions. ISM will save material and circumvent the limits in dimensions and mass.
DCUBED leverages ISM for making solar arrays for satellites directly in space. This is especially important for small satellites (SmallSat), such as in internet-from-space constellations, to satisfy increasingly high power demands at a fraction of the cost of conventional solar arrays. SmallSats play a big role in the growing NewSpace economy and the global space market, which is expected to reach $ 1879B by 2032.
With our advanced ISM technology for building solar arrays in-orbit we will become technology and market leader based in Europe, thus ensuring European competitiveness and non-dependence in space technologies.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
