Objective
The SOLID (Stable Optimized Layered Inorganic/organic Devices) project aims to advance Layered Metal Halides (LMHs) in photovoltaic technology, addressing the European Green Deal’s priorities for clean energy innovation. The project focuses on developing LMHs with polyaromatic organic ligands that enhance π-stacking interactions in a manner to increase charge mobility within the new materials, targeting power conversion efficiencies above 20%. Key objectives include synthesizing LMHs with at least a 10% increase in charge carrier mobility, optimizing thin-film deposition techniques for vertically oriented sub-lattices, identifying compositions with reduced trap states and optimal bandgaps, and achieving less than 10% degradation in performance after 1,000 hours under standard conditions. By overcoming stability and efficiency challenges in perovskite solar cells, SOLID will set new benchmarks for scalable, high-performance photovoltaic materials. The project will have broad scientific impacts, advancing knowledge in materials science and influencing future research and technology development. It will also contribute to societal goals by enhancing renewable energy adoption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting the transition to a sustainable energy future. The project integrates environmental sustainability, including resource-efficient lab practices and the exploration of greener materials. Career development is central, with training in advanced characterization methods, sustainable research practices, and project management under the mentorship of experts at ICIQ. This experience will prepare the researcher to lead in renewable energy innovation, directly supporting the EU’s climate and sustainability targets.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
