Université Paris-Saclay Scientific Training And Research programme for the next generation of Physicists

Objective

We propose to set up an attractive postdoctoral programme - UPSaclaySTAR-Φ - incorporating a meticulously crafted mix of advanced, transferable scientific training and soft skills. Through two calls and a transparent, merit-based and fair selection process, we will recruit 41 postdoctoral fellows to join Université Paris-Saclay in France and its collaborating partners. The scope of the programme spans the full spectrum of the diverse physics research carried out at Université Paris-Saclay, from fundamental to applied. It includes theory, modelling, simulation, and instrumentation, from lab experiments to investigations on large-scale infrastructures or in space. Organised around 3 key areas: Physics of Waves & Matter, Physics of the 2 Infinities, and Astrophysics, the programme also addresses socio-economic issues at the core of European priorities like energy, health, the environment, and climate.
Fellows will benefit from an outstanding instrumental scientific milieu, spanning from large-scale facilities to smaller platforms, with privileged access to major international physics infrastructures. Technological and applied activities, and interdisciplinary interfaces with broad societal impact, leverage a vast network of industrial collaborations. This is reinforced by the university strategic location within the Paris-Saclay public-private innovation hub, France’s largest, gathering 15% of French public and private R&D. Fellows will acquire new scientific and technical knowledge in a cutting-edge research programme, under excellent working conditions and exposure to recognised teams in academia or industry. Supervision, industrial mentoring, and training activities in research management, entrepreneurship, and for the acquisition of new soft skills will empower them to gain autonomy, skills, and recognition. They will be in a position to benefit in the longer term from a wide range of career opportunities in research and innovation backed by a robust network.
