Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

In today's fast-changing world, European SMEs need support and new solutions. And this is exactly how we understand the role of the Digital Summit.

Firstly, we want to show business the potential of new technologies and how they can leverage their innovation in the EU digital market.

Secondly, we will discuss and define ideas for ensuring compliance with EU digital legislation, including in terms of reducing administrative burdens.

Current challenges for European businesses, particularly in the areas of:
- implementing new digital technologies (AI, cloud, quantum technologies),
- implementing EU digital legislation (DSA, DMA, AIA, DGA, DA, CRA, NIS2), both in the context of introducing new products and services to the market, and the impact of regulations on the economic condition of businesses and the economy as a whole,
- achieving the goals of the EU program "Path to the Digital Decade."

The conference is aimed at SMEs, the ICT sector, central and local authorities, the academic community, and community leaders.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The outcomes of the sessions of the Digital Summit and accompanying events will provide informal contribution to implementation of the EU digital policy. Plenty components of this policy were deeply discussed during the event, in particular:
1) effective implementation of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act)
2) application of AI in the public sector;
3) impact of oncoming AI Apply Strategy on SMEs & Scale-Ups
4) simplification of law and reduction of administrative burdens in the digital sector;
5) achieving digital transformation goals;
6) attracting private investments in digital sector
7) digital security
8) business use of European Digital Identity Wallet

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

Digital Summit program included several high-level sessions:
- “AI Continent – ​​What Needs To Be Done” panel, with the participation of representatives of public administration, the European Commission and business,
- discussion "Innovation & Competitiveness in the Digital Single Market" with Margrethe Vestager and leaders of European technology companies,
- debate “Skills Gap – Ensuring ICT Talent Development” with the participation of the Estonian Minister of Justice and Information Technologies Liisa-Ly Pakosta, representatives of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and ETF,
- launch of the Industry-Academia Network initiative within the Cybersecurity Skills Academy with the participation of the Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen.

1) One of the main topics of the Digital Summit was supporting small and medium-sized enterprises of the digital sector in digital transformation and conducting business within the European Union. The large number of digital laws and regulations adopted by the EU in recent years poses numerous challenges for companies, especially small and medium-sized ones;

2) Another dominant topic was the Action Plan for an Artificial Intelligence Continent (AI Continent), published by the European Commission this spring. This provided an opportunity to discuss important aspects related to AI, such as:
- access to computing power for AI in the context of building AI factories and gigafactories;
- use of AI in business and public administration;
- the links between AI and data protection regulations, in the context of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) or GDPR.
Much attention was also paid to the effective implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) adopted last year.
