Objective
To develop quantum technologies, one must be able to stabilize and manipulate quantum coherence and information in non-equilibrium quantum many-body systems. State-of-the-art approaches are based on correcting many-body effects to stabilize coherence and information, but quantum technologies, such as fault-tolerant quantum computing, have still not been achieved. The PI’s recent discovery of fundamental algebraic principles that determine quantum many-body dynamics has the potential to be a basis for a theoretical guide for designing non-equilibrium many-body systems that have robust quantum coherence and information. Systems designed via this algebraic principle would form stable phases of matter, much like condensed matter have in equilibrium, significantly departing from existing approaches. The goal of the project is to develop a framework for designing quantum systems that host robust quantum coherence and information, as well as determine methods for the manipulation of these systems, all of which will be as stable as a phase of matter.
Potential systems that could realize such emergent phases are dissipative time crystals and quantum many-body scars. The first objective of the project will be formulating novel dynamical laws that are suitable for understanding quantum coherent phases and their stability in short and long-range interacting quantum many-body systems. The equations obtained will enable theoretical guidelines for stabilization of novel quantum phases displaying long-time coherent dynamics, which is the second objective. The final objective is theoretically determining potential applications of such phases, e.g. their quantum computing power. This will be complemented with study and proposal of experimentally realistic setups that could realize these phases in e.g. quantum gases or strongly correlated materials. The research in the long-term has the potential to significantly alter and speed up the development of emerging quantum technologies.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
