A scalable and optimised platform for microgravity research and the return of useful charges

Objective

Fostered by the New Space dynamic, the technological advances and falling operational costs of next-generation launch systems, Space Cargo Unlimited (SCU) is leveraing the potential for space-microgravity research and manufacturing in Low Earth Orbit.
The BentoBox aims to democratize access to microgravity environments, making space-based research and manufacturing more accessible and affordable for a wide range of customers. By leveraging its innovative technology and strategic partnerships, SCU is poised to lead the next industrial revolution in space manufacturing. Its approach is based on three key principles. Firstly, to reduce the requirements on payloads that are too specific to the space environment. Secondly, to move from asynchronous operations to near real-time monitoring. And finally, to ensure durability through a maximum reusability of our hardware. Key features of the BentoBox includes:
• Flexible launch options with frequent missions, modular pricing based on mass, volume and optional services such as power supply, thermal control and real-time telemetry;
• Optimized infrastructure for experimentation and manufacturing in microgravity, with sample return capabilities;
• Simplified access to space for public and private organizations, reducing costs by eliminating manned flight constraints and simplifying certification procedures;
• Easier integration, with optimised management of the payload environment (temperature, electrical power, pressure, vibrations)
• Automated platform enabling rapid assignments every six months, adapted to research cycles as well as commercial cycles.
The purpose of the EIC Accelerator project is to finalize the development of the BentoBox through an increase of its payload acceptance (mass and volume) until fall 2027 for it to accomodate all use cases and scale up SCU's service capacities

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
