Centre of Excellence in Integrative One Health Ecosystem

Objective

IntegroHEALTH aims to establish the first One Health Integration Centre (OHIC) in the Baltics and Eastern Europe, pioneering a nationwide, AI-powered digital twin (DT) infrastructure that transforms environment-based epidemiology into a real-time decision-support ecosystem. The project is a collaborative effort between three leading Latvian research institutions: Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment BIOR and Riga Technical University, and internationally renowned advanced partners - European Molecular Biology Laboratory and University of Dundee. The goal of IntegroHEALTH will be reached by implementing three overarching objectives: (1) Establish the first nationwide DT-enabled One Health research and surveillance infrastructure, and demonstrate its performance to provide actionable insights and decision support at both national and European levels; (2) Create connectivity between environment-based epidemiology, public health and industry, leveraging DT technology and AI-driven analytics to foster innovation and enhance the integration of novel state-of-the-art technologies, and (3) Ensure long-term sustainability and facilitate systemic improvements of the Latvian R&I ecosystem, further integrating it into the European Research Area. OHIC will provide infrastructure and services, and employ new researchers who will carry out innovative research projects to bridge the gaps that currently exist between One Health-related activities. By creating a fully functional and integrated system, IntegroHEALTH will deliver new tools to public health organisations and companies to validate new technologies and treatment approaches in all One Health areas and test the implementation of new policies at the state level. IntegroHEALTH's ambitious vision for OHIC is an exciting development for healthcare in Europe, with the potential to radically transform public health management and innovation.
