Danish EU Presidency Event for the Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters

Project description

Danish EU Presidency advances EU Mission to restore oceans

The EU Presidency Conference of the EU Mission Ocean Presidency was scheduled during the Danish EU Presidency in Nyborg in September 2025. The goal is to give visibility to the EU mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters’. The EU-financed DK2025OCEAN project will bring together stakeholders from different sectors to share knowledge and collaborate on the goals of the Mission. The conference is an opportunity to highlight ecosystem restoration, zero pollution, and the creation of a sustainable, climate-resilient blue economy. Additionally, a Strategic Roadmap will be developed to implement and scale up solutions for the defence of marine and freshwater environments. The event is part of wider efforts to facilitate knowledge transfer, aligning scientific knowledge and local innovation with EU policy and strategy formulation.

Objective

The Danish EU Presidency Event for the Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters aims to convene stakeholders from across Europe and sectors, spanning research, policy, funding, industry, and civil society, to share knowledge, exchange practical experiences, and inspire collaboration. The event will focus on the Mission’s core objectives, ecosystem restoration and protection, zero pollution, and the development of a sustainable, climate-resilient blue economy. This cross-sectoral dialogue is essential to unlocking integrated solutions and fostering a shared commitment to achieving the Mission’s goals. As a high-level platform, the event will support the deployment phase of the Mission by developing a Strategic Roadmap for the implementation and scaling of solutions that restore and protect both marine and freshwater ecosystems, while advancing the green transition in aquatic environments. It will serve as a knowledge transfer forum, facilitating the integration of results and insights into policy frameworks, by synthesising key actions, enabling conditions, and deployment pathways. Its outcomes will help align scientific expertise and local innovation with EU-level strategy and policy development.
