An Interregional PhD Programme for Advancing Sustainability and Climate Resilience in Occitania, Balearic Islands, and Catalonia

Objective

TERRA-MED is a joint interregional initiative led by the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean (Euroregio), a grouping of three EU regions of the south of EU : Occitania Region in France, Catalonia and Balearic Islands governments in Spain. Altogether, Euroregion's territory forms a cutting-edge research and innovative ecosystem with many research and academic institutions in the world's top ranking.

The 3 cross border territories are particularly affected by the compounded impacts of climate change, which are disrupting resources and systems. To respond to the vulnerability of these territories to climate change, EUROREGIO actors are joining forces in this doctoral program focusing on the WATER – LAND – ENERGY nexus.

TERRA-MED's Interregional doctoral program will train 33 promising researchers to face these challenges and pave the way for sustainability and resource efficiency in Mediterranean regions. This multidisciplinary doctoral program aims to train the next generation of research talents that will tackle the pressing challenges in our climate change affected regions. Recruited fellows will benefit from the Euroregio research and innovation ecosystem and will work interregionaly: all PhDs fellows will be jointly supervised by academics and non-academics, with mandatory cross border or international secondments. TERRA-MED will strongly promote co-thesis arrangements. A specific training program jointly designed and implemented by the 12 Implementing Partners and 22 Associated Partners will build the basis of the future careers of the fellows with transversal and socials skills as well as a highly specialised research training.
