Doctoral Training Centre for the Materials Innovators of the Future

Objective

The Doctoral Training Centre bridging Advanced Digital Materials Discovery and Advanced Processing Technologies to develop the Materials Innovators of the Future (ADAPT-MIF) will prepare PhD graduates who understand the interplay of diverse cutting-edge materials discovery, processing, and manufacturing techniques. These innovators will be equipped to drive innovation from materials research to products that enhance society and the environment. ADAPT-MIF expands the scope of our established Centre for Doctoral Training in Digital and Automated Materials Chemistry, providing successsful fellows access to a unique inter-disciplinary training program and internationally recognized academic supervisors leading pioneering research worldwide.
Recognizing that modern materials innovation demands the fusion of computation and experimentation across scales, ADAPT-MIF will train PhD graduates with expertise in materials chemistry, data science and automation, and advanced processing and manufacturing. Through a cohort-based training approach, ADAPT-MIF brings together international doctoral fellows from physical sciences, computer sciences, and materials and chemical engineering backgrounds. In collaboration with cross-sector industrial partners, the program will develop their core skills in automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence, applied within specific materials design, discovery, formulation, and processing research projects.
The state-of-the-art Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) will be home to ADAPT-MIF fellows, providing a world-leading robotic materials synthesis suite and fostering an industrial mindset within an inter-sectoral collaborative research environment that nurtures leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
