Broadening Expertise for YOung Researchers iN aDvanced Cell & Gene Therapies

Project description

Training a new generation of intersectoral professionals to accelerate advanced therapies

Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) – cutting-edge treatments based on genes, cells and tissues – are transforming medicine, yet Europe faces a critical shortage of professionals who possess a holistic understanding of the full ATMP development continuum, from laboratory to patient. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the BEYOND project will train 35 postdoctoral researchers across the full ATMP development pathway, from fundamental research through clinical translation, regulatory approval, industrial manufacturing and patient access. By leveraging a dynamic research and innovation ecosystem of academic and industry partners across Europe, the programme combines high-level scientific training with tailored career development support, fostering a new generation of leaders capable of driving innovation in this rapidly evolving field.

Objective

BEYOND is a cutting-edge, International Postdoctoral Training Programme on Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) designed to promote excellent training through interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and cross-border mobility and collaboration. Coordinated by Fondazione Telethon (FTELE), BEYOND aims to tackle the critical skills shortage in the ATMP sector, addressing the pressing demand for intersectoral professionals capable of confidently navigating the full translational pathway of these drugs - a rapidly evolving domain at the forefront of global healthcare innovation.
Over 60 months, BEYOND will recruit 35 postdoctoral researchers through 2 competitive calls, offering 3-year fellowships that blend excellent academic science with immersive exposure to all facets of the ATMP development ecosystem, tailored to meet each fellow’s interests and career goals. The Programme combines fundamental and translational research training - in cellular and molecular biology, gene and cell therapy, genomics, computational modelling and AI-protein design - complemented by tailored career development support, empowering fellows to succeed in academia and beyond.
BEYOND is uniquely positioned to make a lasting impact by setting new standards for postdoctoral training: it leverages the leadership in the field of FTELE’s institutes (SR-Tiget and TIGEM), and the synergistic strengths of 3 academic implementing partners across Europe (UK, Sweden, Slovenia), alongside key associated academic/non-academic partners like EATRIS, Medicon Village, Assobiotec and Schiller & Mertens. With a holistic approach on career development, BEYOND will empower researchers to become future leaders in the ATMP field. Fully aligned with EU strategic priorities and embedded in dynamic national and regional R&I ecosystems, BEYOND supports Europe’s ambition to lead in health innovation by cultivating a critical mass of skilled scientists, ready to drive long-term scientific excellence and innovation.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
This project's classification has been human-validated.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
