Marine Renewable Energy Distribute Research Infrastructure - Implementation Phase

Objective

MARINERG-i aims to establish a world-leading Distributed Research Infrastructure (DRI) that accelerates the development of Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) technologies, including wind, wave, tidal, and hybrid systems. As part of Europe’s green and digital transitions, MARINERG-i will streamline access to top-tier test infrastructures, support joint research, and deliver coordinated services to industry, researchers, and policy makers. Having secured a place on the 2021 ESFRI Roadmap and currently completing its Preparatory Phase, MARINERG-i will shortly enter its critical Implementation Phase.

This project will address key challenges often experience by early phase projects including: achieving legal status as an ERIC; completing the operational e-infrastructure; consolidating service offerings; finalising the DRI’s architecture, providing training to RI staff; and expanding both membership and the user community. It will also establish governance and financial systems and seek to reinforce the DRI’s long-term sustainability. MARINERG-i_IMP supports coordinated capacity building, definition of standards and best practices, data management aligned with FAIR principles, and user engagement to maximise uptake and scientific impact. It will also put long-term monitoring mechanisms in place and test and refine operations to ensure impact and maintain quality and standards.

The project brings together Europe’s leading test centres with political backing already attained from 6 Member States and the close engagement of 4 prospective countries. MARINERG-i aims to maintain Europe’s leadership in ORE innovation. By transitioning to full operation, MARINERG-i will provide the integrated, strategic platform needed to accelerate the commercialisation of ORE technologies and support the EU’s climate and energy goals.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
