Superconductivity Meets the quantum Hall effect

Objective

Superconductivity and the (fractional) quantum Hall effect are two, long-thought incompatible, cornerstones of quantum condensed matter. SUPERHALL will unite them to create, control, and diagnose topological superconductivity in graphene. We will engineer ultra-short, gate-tunable quantum Hall Josephson junctions operating from integer to fractional regimes, and combine precision quantum transport with high-field circuit quantum electrodynamics to reveal protected bound states and parity dynamics.
The project pursues three objectives: (1) gate-tune pairing symmetry of entangled Cooper-pairs using channel-selective interferometry; (2) realize chiral, spin-polarized and phase-shifted supercurrents; and (3) demonstrate anyonic supercurrent with signatures of parafermionic bound states. Our approach exploits van der Waals heterostructures with high-transparency superconducting point contacts made from magnetic-field-resilient alloys, and optimized device geometries that preserve quantum Hall robustness while maximizing superconducting proximity coherence. High-field resonators will enable dispersive readout and two-tone spectroscopy to map Andreev spectra, track quasiparticle parity in time, and test the topological protection of zero-energy crossings.
Expected outcomes are unambiguous spectroscopic fingerprints of unconventional and topological Josephson junctions, a reproducible platform to create and manipulate Majorana and parafermionic excitations, and foundational building blocks for parity-protected qubits and interferometric control in hybrid quantum circuits. By bringing two iconic yet traditionally antagonistic quantum phenomena into a single, hybrid platform, SUPERHALL aims to open a robust route toward topological hardware for quantum technologies.
