Objective
WETCAP builds on a recent breakthrough: the discovery of MUV-92, a pyrazolate-based ultramicroporous Metal-Organic Framework that efficiently captures CO2 even under very humid conditions, where existing sorbents typically fail. This Proof of Concept project aims to turn MUV-92 from a laboratory discovery into a market-ready solution for decentralized applications such as biogas upgrading, fermentation off-gases, and small-scale industrial flue gas treatment.
The project will secure intellectual property and define an exploitation pathway by combining licensing to industrial partners with early-stage commercialization mechanisms. MUV-92 will be scaled up to kilogram production and shaped into mechanically robust beads compatible with industrial Pressure/Vacuum Swing Adsorption (PSA/VSA) systems, and its performance validated under demanding high-humidity and contaminant-rich gas streams, including long-term stability testing.
To ensure market relevance, technical validation will be complemented with cost benchmarking, external market studies, and close interaction with industrial partners providing pilot plants in Spain for future demonstrations. Strategic mentorship from specialized consultancy firms will reinforce the commercial vision and exploitation plans.
By bridging advanced materials research with real industrial needs, WETCAP will demonstrate the feasibility of MUV-92 as a competitive CO2 capture solution and lay the foundations for larger-scale initiatives, including a follow-up EIC Transition towards pilot deployment and early market adoption.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
