Pioneering User-centric wireless, smart and bi-directionaL charging Solutions for Electric light-duty vehicles

Objective

By 2030, the prevision state that among 30 to 54 million of electric Light-Duty Vehicles (LDV) will be driving on the EU roads. In addition, to accompany this evolution and meet the European Commission's target of 3.5 million public charging points by 2030, an estimated 410,000 new points need to be installed annually. Ideally, this potential growth must be executed without creating new urban space disturbances and grid issues, for which innovative non-intrusive and bi-directional solutions need to be explored and validated.

Dense urban areas will demand user-friendly, seamlessly integrated into the urban landscape, and cost-effective charging infrastructure for a quick and grid-integrated roll-out. In this context, the low-power bi-directional wireless solution can be the game-changer technology for passenger cars (static, especially overnight) and for fleets (stationary, daytime).

The ultimate goal of PULSE is to establish wireless, bidirectional charging as a trusted, inclusive, and service-ready cornerstone of Europe’s electromobility transition. Its key aim is to advance transport electrification by enabling the efficient system integration of EVs, in full alignment with the 2ZERO SRIA and its four strategic pillars. By advancing Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and Societal Readiness Levels (SRLs) in parallel, PULSE lays the foundation for large-scale uptake that strengthens the flexibility and resilience of Europe’s energy system while ensuring fairness, accessibility, and long-term societal acceptance—directly supporting the European Green Deal, the Net Zero Industry Act, and the vision of the 2ZERO Partnership.
