Project description
Future-proofing Europe’s quantum algorithmic strategies
Quantum computing promises to revolutionise science, yet current methods largely overlook the power of measurement as an active computational resource. Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the DREAM-QA project will address this by leveraging mid-circuit measurements to drive quantum information processing. Through theoretical modelling and hardware demonstrations, the project will analyse how measurements influence entanglement and quantum phases while developing efficient practical protocols. Key objectives involve identifying applications in quantum machine learning and state preparation. Ultimately, DREAM-QA aims to cultivate unique expertise in next-generation technologies, enhance international project leadership, and position Europe at the forefront of the global quantum landscape by pioneering innovative, measurement-driven algorithmic strategies.
Objective
Quantum computing is expected to transform science, technology and industry. Most current approaches rely almost exclusively on unitary operations, overlooking the transformative role of measurement as an active computational resource. With the recent advent of mid-circuit measurements, quantum systems can now be probed and reset during computation, opening the door to entirely new algorithmic strategies.
The DREAM-QA project aims to establish a pioneering framework that harnesses measurement as a driver of quantum information processing. By combining theoretical modelling, advanced numerical simulations, and proof-of-principle demonstrations on near-term quantum hardware, the project will: (i) develop a rigorous understanding of how generalized measurements affect entanglement, correlations, and phases of qubit systems; (ii) design efficient protocols to implement such measurements in practice; and (iii) identify and test algorithmic applications in areas such as quantum machine learning, state preparation, and quantum characterization.
DREAM-QA will train the fellow at the interface of quantum information, quantum many-body systems, quantum computation, and quantum measurements, equipping him with unique expertise in measurement-driven quantum algorithms, a field at the core of Europe’s quantum strategy. The fellowship will enhance his independence, project leadership, and international profile, while positioning Europe at the forefront of next-generation quantum technologies.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
