Multiscale approach to ALTerMAGnetism In Kagomes: From Functional Responses to Phase Competition and Superconductivity

Objective

The study of magnetism, a foundational topic in condensed matter physics, remains at the forefront of current research. Understanding the interplay between magnetic ordering, strong electron interactions, and band topology poses a significant challenge that lies at the heart of many important open questions in modern condensed matter physics. One of them is the understanding of the intricate phase diagram of a subset of Kagome systems, the AVSb family, featuring anomalous symmetry-broken phases and unconventional superconductivity. ALTMAGIK will address this topic under the perspective of altermagnetism, a recently proposed form of magnetism associated to zero net magnetization and spin-split Fermi surfaces, by studying its role as a driving mechanism for the exotic phenomena reported in the experiments. Different forms of altermagnetic ordering with finite or vanishing dipolar atomic moments will be studied combining different theoretical approaches ranging from macroscopic Ginzburg–Landau theories to microscopic non-perturbative calculations. The resulting framework will not only capture the conditions for the emergence and stability of these phases, but will also predict new measurable effects of interests in spintronics and superconducting technologies.
