TETTRIX: TETTRIs next level for the taxonomy of tomorrow

Objective

TETTRIX aims to build a scalable, inclusive, and policy-aligned European taxonomic system that delivers real-time, FAIR, and actionable species-level data to science, policy, and society addressing “Area A” of HORIZON-CL6-2025-01-BIODIV-03 call. By integrating fragmented resources, transforming biodiversity data into decision-ready knowledge, and upskilling future experts, the project will modernise taxonomy into a coherent, interoperable, and policy-ready infrastructure supporting data-driven and interdisciplinary research workflows.
Biodiversity loss is accelerating at unprecedented rates. Despite its critical role, taxonomy in Europe remains fragmented, under-resourced, and insufficiently connected to digital infrastructures, policy needs, and societal uptake.
Building on the achievements of its predecessor TETTRIs, TETTRIX will establish a next-generation European taxonomic intelligence system through four interconnected aims: INTEGRATE (and develop central hubs for taxonomic FAIR data, expertise and services, and orchestrate cross-fertilisation with genomics), TRANSFORM (while establishing Europe’s digital interoperable taxonomy backbones and fostering adoption of taxonomy in the private sector and across societal layers, to generate impact on ethics and socio-economic development), UPSKILL (by reinforcing and consolidating Europe’s taxonomy training infrastructure, career pathways, and science–policy capacity), and DEMONSTRATE (through deploying a €2.4M cascade funding scheme to pilot innovative tools and methods, and enlarge taxonomic capacity for experts and citizens).
The project will deliver critical impact with a long-term vision, consolidating the taxonomic community at the core of European research, policy, and innovation. It will position Europe to lead globally in tackling biodiversity challenges, operationalise One Health to strengthen resilience for all living organisms, and drive the shift to a sustainable, nature-positive future.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Coordinator

CONSORTIUM OF EUROPEAN TAXONOMIC FACILITIES
Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
