Vertical Operations ready to GO

Objective

Innovative Air Mobility has potential to significantly increase flexibility of today’s air transport services as well as passengers’ experience. Beyond the challenges associated with development and certification of the new types of aircraft and the setup of IAM ground infrastructure (mainly vertiports network), the safe integration of IAM into current ATM (and U-space) operational environment and its smooth coexistence with other airspace users are critical enablers still to be solved.
The project VERTI-GO will address this integration challenge and accelerate thus deployment of initial IAM operations through development, validation, and delivering of the critical enablers in the following areas:
• Extension of core ATM components to support IAM operations – delivering IAM Flight Planning and Vertiport reservation management frameworks.
• Demonstration of initial IAM operations through VFR flights in Spain with the only European crewed eVTOL aircraft, and uncrewed IAM flights under SAIL IV in Germany.
• Procedures for IAM operations in complex operational environment, namely congested ATC controlled airspace and U-space in controlled airspace.
• Advanced automation functions supporting provision of ATM/U-space services for IAM as well as operators/pilots of both crewed and uncrewed IAM aircraft.
The project activities are organized into two solutions based on the actual readiness of the overall eco-system (including IAM aircraft) for VFR and IFR operations and the resulting different maturity targets. The goal of Solution 1, which advances definition and implementation of crewed IAM operations under VFR in today’s environment, is to achieve the TRL7. Solution 2 addresses longer term IAM needs to enable smooth transition towards IFR operations both for crewed and uncrewed aircraft with the goal to achieve TRL4 for the overall solution, admitting that specific elements (like initial uncrewed SAIL IV operations) may potentially reach TRL6 via planned flight demo.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
