Objective
Depression, anxiety and stress are predictable and preventable mental health (MH) conditions that are widespread in Europe and beyond, often emerging early in life and persisting across the life span. This multi-disciplinary consortium of 16 partners consists of universities, research institutes, NGOs and SME that will close knowledge-to-action gaps by (i) analysing and integrating existing European cohorts and trials; (ii) identifying diet-linked risk signatures (dietary quality, nutrient status, microbiome features) associated with anxiety/depression/stress trajectories; (iii) testing light-touch, scalable dietary improvements that can be incorporated into care pathways; and (iv) embedding equity and life-course analyses so that benefits reach vulnerable high-risk groups across socioeconomic contexts and genders. NUTRIMIND will involve individuals, communities, and other stakeholders in a multi-actor Community of Practice to enable the co-creation of research, tools, data collection, and interpretation to capture behavioural, cultural, social, and psychological dimensions.
NUTRIMIND is a project that explores how diet, the gut microbiome, and mental health interact across the lifespan and translates this knowledge into practical strategies. By integrating large-scale cohorts, multi-omics analyses, AI-driven models, and citizen science, the project will deliver personalised recommendations, tools, and policy guidance. Through stakeholder engagement and co-creation, it aims to promote sustainable behaviour change, support healthcare and policy, and strengthen the long-term prevention of mental health conditions in Europe
