TUMOUR ACTIVATED IMMUNOTHERAPY FOR SOLID TUMOURS (TAIST)

Objective

Cancer remains a major global burden, with an estimated 19 million new cases and almost 10 million deaths due to cancer in 2020. For many cancers, the survival rate remains low despite new therapies becoming available. For example, lung cancer survival estimates are 25% at five years. The overall burden of cancer incidence and mortality is growing rapidly and there remains a critical need for new and effective treatments. Although immunotherapeutic approaches for cancer have revolutionized the treatment options for cancer patients, there are still many limitations to the approach. For example, the immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) only work in a limited set of solid tumour indications and generally achieve responses rates of around 25%. This is mainly due to cancer mechanisms that suppress immune activation.

The overall goal is to perform an expansion study in one or two tumour indications in up to 24 participants as part of the open ATTEST phase I clinical trial, to further explore the mechanism of action and efficacy.. ATTEST aims to benefit patients with solid tumours using a novel disruptive immunotherapy (ATTR-01) that addresses the major limitations of current immunotherapies. ATTR-01 has the potential to be used in several cancer types, representing over 700,000 patients per year in the EU alone and around 43 billion Euros a year in net revenue. The purpose is to further explore the mechanism of action and efficacy. The data from this investigation will seed future clinical trials to assess the activity of ATTR-01, with the ambition of developing the drug to market approval. The impact will include enabling healthcare providers, researchers and patients getting faster access to innovative therapies, benefiting the EU by increasing the number of clinical trials being conducted with new biotech therapeutic approaches and benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the EU and Associated Countries by strengthening the health biotech sector.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
