Objective
TRANSCAN-4 represents the next phase of a long-standing and successful European collaboration dedicated to advancing translational cancer research. Building on the achievements of its predecessors, TRANSCAN-4 will prepare and implement four funded joint transnational calls (JTC), thereby fostering high-impact, collaborative research efforts across Europe and beyond. A central focus will beyond JTC is the engagement of patients in cancer research and the support to Early Career Researchers and the recruitment of additional funding organizations, both within and outside of Europe, to strengthen the network and secure broad-based financial and institutional support. All in all to ensure that research outcomes remain meaningful and responsive to patients’ needs. In parallel, TRANSCAN-4 will lay the groundwork for a future EC Co-funded partnership, developing a comprehensive Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) as a core component and preparing for long-term sustainability. It also includes a systematic assessment of the impact of TRANSCAN-funded projects, providing valuable insights into their scientific, clinical, and societal contributions.
Looking ahead, TRANSCAN aligns its long-term vision with the European Commission’s EU Mission on Cancer Implementation Plan and in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Recognizing the enduring need for coordinated action, the funding organizations involved in TRANSCAN are committed to continuing beyond this milestone. This sustained and ambitious collaboration between the European Commission and TRANSCAN partners offers a unique opportunity to support Cancer translational research.
