Objective
Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovary Syndrome (PMOS) affects 7-12% of women of reproductive age. Despite its profound impact on patients’ lives, the disease remains under-researched and diagnostic delays are common. Furthermore, current PCOS research relies heavily on inadequate animal models, hampering progress in understanding the disease and in diagnostic and therapeutic development.
hope4PMOS aims to transform PMOS research by developing human 3D models of key organs involved in this burdening disease, including the neuroendocrine axis, adipose tissue and reproductive organs. These advanced models will be supported by a comprehensive biobanking strategy, combining minimally invasive sampling with innovative approaches. The project will establish a standardized multi-organ PMOS biobanking protocol to harmonize sample collection and model generation across Europe. To ensure patient impact, hope4PMOS will co-create a sustainable, (f)empowering digital health platform that guides women with PMOS toward diagnosis and disease management and analyses their self-reported input to identify digital biomarkers for PMOS. Ultimately, hope4PMOS will advance pathological insight and immune-biomarker discovery toward therapeutic progress and better quality of life for PMOS patients.
To achieve these ambitious goals, hope4PMOS brings together a multidisciplinary consortium: two leading university hospitals specializing in PMOS, one academic public health expert, two academic partners renowned for 3D organ modeling, a machine learning expert, two biotech and digital health SMEs, a pharma service provider with expertise in women’s health, and a women’s health patient organization.
Through cutting-edge science, patient-centered innovation and a strategic exploitation strategy, hope4PMOS will significantly advance women’s health research, accelerate personalized medicine and contribute to the EU’s goals of equity, innovation and global leadership in biomedical research.
