Enabling Partnerships for Innovation & Accelerator Technology Advancement

Objective

EPITA is a consortium of 43 beneficiaries from 16 countries with a total budget exceeding €21 million, funded by a €10 million EU contribution and over €11 million in matching funds. The project's main goal is to integrate various research and development initiatives into a coordinated, vision-driven program, aligned with the established roadmap for accelerator research infrastructures (RIs). EPITA is structured around three key technology tracks: Accelerating Systems, Magnets and Beamlines, and Frontier Technologies. These tracks are supported by dedicated work packages for communication, outreach, and co-creation with industry. The project aims to advance breakthrough technologies in conventional, superconducting, and laser-driven acceleration; high-temperature superconducting and permanent accelerator magnets; and in the development, additive manufacturing, and processing of advanced materials for accelerators. Through a portfolio of 22 prototypes of innovative accelerator technologies, EPITA seeks to enable a new generation of high-performance and sustainable accelerators. The project is designed to foster a resilient European accelerator ecosystem that extends beyond traditional RIs. By maximizing the impact of these technologies and aligning with the strategies of user communities, EPITA aims to strengthen Europe's competitive edge and foster a robust co-creation environment. The project's activities were carefully selected in consultation with user communities, prioritizing areas not covered by existing projects and where added value can be achieved through transnational and cross-disciplinary collaboration. As a long-term strategic effort, EPITA will advance selected activities initiated under previous collaborative projects, ensuring that breakthrough developments are rapidly translated into practical applications, benefiting all stakeholders and enabling a synergistic and resource-efficient evolution of European accelerator-based RIs.
