Objective
TransBioNet will establish the first pan-European network of knowledge valorisation intermediaries fully dedicated to drug discovery and biomedical innovation. Despite Europe’s world-class science, promising discoveries often fail to reach patients due to fragmented support, under-recognised intermediaries, and limited cross-border collaborations. TransBioNet addresses this gap by connecting regional clusters, pan-European infrastructures, and accelerators into a coherent ecosystem that equips intermediaries with harmonised tools, training, and services.
The project will deliver three flagship resources: (i) the TransBioNet Digital Platform, a central hub integrating the Infrastructure Atlas, matchmaking tools, and training modules; (ii) a Valorisation Assessment Toolkit, providing standardised TRL/IRL evaluations embedding regulatory, IP, and market dimensions; and (iii) the TransBioNet Charter, a policy framework to ensure recognition of intermediaries across EU and national innovation strategies. Two Open Calls will support 12 early-stage drug discovery projects with mentoring, bootcamps, and access to infrastructures, creating tangible case studies of valorisation in practice.
Through training programmes, secondments, and a Community of Practice, the project will build a new generation of skilled intermediaries able to de-risk biomedical projects, improve reproducibility, and accelerate translation. By lowering attrition rates and increasing investment readiness, TransBioNet will strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in drug discovery while ensuring inclusive participation of less-resourced regions.
The project directly advances ERA Action 7 on Knowledge Valorisation, reinforcing open science, responsible research assessment, and cross-border collaboration. By its conclusion, TransBioNet will deliver a recognised European reference point for biomedical valorisation, ensuring that high-quality science translates into innovative therapies, jobs & societal impact.
