Objective
AUTONIX will pioneer a new generation of digital and circular manufacturing solutions for automotive remanufacturing, enabling the transition from linear value chains to scalable circular ecosystems. The project will create an AI-enabled, interoperable physical–digital ecosystem tailored to the high-mix, high-variability context of the automotive sector.
Key areas of development include AI-driven diagnostics and decision support, combining NDT, visual inspection, and usage data to predict part condition and reduce false assessments; R-strategy optimisation models to dynamically select reuse, remanufacture, repurpose, or recycle pathways; sustainable operations, introducing solvent-free cleaning and energy monitoring; smart disassembly and sorting, deploying robotic and human-assisted systems enhanced by AI; and adaptive remanufacturing processes using additive, hybrid, and overmolding techniques for high-value components. A circular data infrastructure will enable secure and trusted information exchange with external stakeholders, aligned with Catena-X, Gaia-X, and emerging EU data spaces. Complementary design-for-remanufacturing guidelines will support OEMs and suppliers in embedding circularity into future products, reinforced by contributions to pre-standardisation activities.
AUTONIX will validate its results in five industrial use cases spanning full vehicle (OEM through Stellantis Sustainera hub) and component level (Tier-1 suppliers through AVL and FACTOR), covering engines, gearboxes, traction batteries, and electromechanical interior assemblies. Demonstrations at industrial level will prove scalability across the OEM–Tier-1 value chain. Beyond technology, AUTONIX will establish innovative business models and provide best-practice and policy recommendations, enabling efficient remanufacturing of current and next-generation vehicles in Europe and strengthening the EU strategic autonomy.
