Objective
BlueMissionBANOS 2030 (BMB2030) will accelerate and scale the implementation of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” in the Baltic and North Sea (BANOS). Building on the achievements of BlueMissionBANOS and BlueActionBANOS, the project consolidates National Mission Hubs (NMHs) in 12 countries as the backbone of Mission Ocean delivery. These Hubs will embed Mission objectives into national governance and innovation systems, mobilising stakeholders across ministries, agencies, funders, businesses, researchers, and civil society.
The project’s objectives are to: (i) align and mobilise stakeholders and initiatives through NMHs and Transition Labs; (ii) drive replication and scale-up of Mission Ocean solutions via showcases, matchmaking, and BlueBioMatch national groups; (iii) unlock new funding pathways by convening National and basin-level Tables of Funders and promoting Mission-aligned procurement; (iv) ensure robust monitoring and policy alignment through a harmonised BANOS Monitoring Framework; (v) empower citizens and underrepresented groups via engagement formats and a Citizen Playbook; and (vi) strengthen cross-basin and international coordination, linking BANOS to EU and UN Ocean Decade processes.
BMB2030 will be delivered through an integrated work plan: WP2 develops NMHs and Transition Labs; WP3 accelerates innovation and connects solutions with finance and procurement; WP4 organises Mission Arenas and citizen engagement; WP5 operationalises monitoring and dashboards; WP6 drives communication, dissemination, and exploitation. Three flagship Mission Arenas will showcase solutions and align funding, while BlueBioMatch ensures sustained online collaboration.
