Magnetic non-volatile Random Access Memory for SPACE with Serial interface 2

Objective

Ensuring Europe’s strategic autonomy in space is vital in the current geopolitical context. MNEMOSYNE 2 directly contributes to this goal by delivering a European, radiation-hardened, high-density non-volatile memory (NVM) with at least 1024 Mbit capacity, a key enabler for next-generation space missions. Building on the H2020 MNEMOSYNE project, 3D PLUS, IMEC, University of Padova and NanoXplore will industrialize and qualify a first-of-its-kind flight-ready memory component based on the 22 nm FD-SOI STT-MRAM process, developed entirely in the EU. By reaching TRL 8 and moving to production-grade manufacturing, the project ensures that Europe possesses its own independent and resilient supply of critical space memory.
The device will provide secure, ITAR-free, high-performance memory for mission-critical functions such as FPGA configuration, processor boot, and data storage. With outstanding radiation tolerance (TID >100 krad(Si), SEL LET >85 MeV·cm²/mg), low power, long data retention, and extended temperature range (–55 °C to +125 °C), it will outperform traditional NOR Flash. Full compatibility with NanoXplore FPGA platforms (NG-ULTRA, ULTRA 7) guarantees seamless integration into European space systems.
MNEMOSYNE 2 introduces a leap in capacity through 3D PLUS stacking technology, enabling scalable densities without compromising reliability. A strict no–pure-tin policy further enhances robustness, setting a benchmark for space-grade components. The project consolidates a fully European supply chain, eliminating reliance on non-European sources and reinforcing resilience against disruptions.
By aligning with the EU Chips Act, Secure Connectivity, Copernicus, and Galileo, MNEMOSYNE 2 strengthens Europe’s leadership in secure, sovereign space technologies. Its outcome will empower future space infrastructures, enhance competitiveness, and safeguard Europe’s strategic independence in space electronics.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

3D PLUS SA
Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
