Europe PMC 2026-2031

Objective

Europe PMC is a critical open scholarly infrastructure that preserves and enriches biomedical research literature, including abstracts and full text for publications, including preprints. It is a vital and trusted resource accessed by ~25 million website users in 2024. It offers powerful discovery tools and open APIs for literature analysis, and creates an interconnected knowledge network by integrating publications with associated research outputs. It enables users to find and access scientific evidence, conduct meta research, and build new services and tools for the wider community.
During this grant, our vision is to deliver a sustainable, resilient, and independent resource that integrates open science outputs and supports open publication workflows to meet the needs of people, computational systems, and AI. We will transform Europe PMC’s search capabilities through AI integration to develop state-of-the-art literature research tools. We will enable efficient analysis of Europe PMC’s rich metadata, allowing programmatic users to easily traverse the APIs, integrating new information sources and improve transparency through metadata provenance. We will support open science practices with new preprint indexing capabilities and improved citations metrics to showcase the full impact of research. This will be underpinned by collaborations to drive adoption of open science and new technologies.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
